Reporting to the VP of Operations, this position is responsible for the development, implementation, and on-going coordination of our Health, Safety and Environment Program across multiple operating companies in Ontario.

Responsibilities include managing HSE best practices, promoting the importance of hazard identification, and implementing other programs to reduce the overall risk of injuries and/or accidents


  • Develop, recommend, and implement our safety & environmental program, practices & procedures (includes operational procedures considering all relevant risks, hazards, and controls)
  • Promote a behavioral based safety and sustainability culture and support change with all employees and managers. Promote HSE feedback from all employees.
  • Analyze and update policies, procedures and plans in accordance with provincial or company guidelines.
  • Oversee and perform (as required) inspections to identify hazards and potential risks for corrective actions.
  • Lead, maintain, train all Enablon functions and implement across our locations
  • Provide training to all employees regarding HSE compliance across all locations.
  • Carry out and/or monitor HSE inspections identifying hazards and potential risks for corrective actions to ensure compliance towards policies and procedures
  • Communicate the importance of incident reporting and conduct investigations as required.
  • Recommend corrective/preventive measures following incidents to reduce risk of re-occurrence.
  • Oversee formation of H&S Committees and chair monthly/quarterly meetings.
  • Conduct employee new hire health and safety orientations
  • Identify, monitor, evaluate and track all Health and Safety activities through audits, other record keeping methods.
  • Ensure all employees have adequate PPE available to them as necessary or requested.
  • Monitor and report on performance goals based on corporate HSE objectives.
  • Incorporate HSE objectives with operations team by measuring related results as needed. (Countermeasures / Gaps)
  • Participate in all meetings as requested and required. Travel as necessary.
  • Work closely with our Operations Specialist to execute all the above activities
  • Working collaboratively among other health and safety professionals within Sonepar Canada
  • Always represent Sonepar Ontario in a professional manner


Required Qualifications:


  • Current certifications in Safety Management (CRSP, CHSC, OHS Certificate, OHS Diploma).
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft office (Powerpoint, Word, Excel, Sharepoint)
  • Industry knowledge and experience preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years related experience
  • Safety Management Software Experience (SAP, Enablon, Cority, or Conformit)
  • Thorough understanding of general management principles with experience in a sales focused environment
  • Sound analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Self-motivated and performance orientated
