Scope of the Position:
Reporting to the VP, Customer Experience, this role will be responsible for all strategic enterprise projects nationally. The enterprise project management office is a high-performing central team focused on driving the design, execution, and the ongoing management of Sonepar Canada’s strategic agenda. This role will bridge the gap between our national vision and strategy and the operationalization of key initiatives that elevate our business. The Director, Strategy & Enterprise Project Management will execute innovative strategies that will directly impact the efficiency, effectiveness, and success of our business.
This includes supporting the executive leaders and key stakeholders in the development, communication, planning and execution of the organization’s nationwide strategy as well as business-line specific priorities. The Director will work closely with senior management, business line leads, and a diverse set of stakeholders to lead execution of strategic projects, generate insights to deliver strategic recommendations, and support execution monitoring.
This role will designing and managing high-impact programs and projects and lead the development of project analytics and operational processes. The Director will elevate cross-functional collaboration and drive improvements that will increase the overall health of our business.
Major Responsibilities:
Portfolio Execution
- Lead a broad range of overall portfolio execution engagements, including strategic programs, projects, and initiatives. This involves managing large cross-functional teams across business lines with activities including designing and developing roadmaps, issue identification, quantitative and qualitative analysis to assess impact on financials, and preparing / presenting compelling strategic recommendations to leadership.
- Design and lead problem solving sessions, workshops, and interviews with cross-functional / business line working team members and subject matter experts.
- Bridge silos and enable alignment across business lines and corporate functions.
- Support the execution and ongoing management of strategic planning with key business lines to ensure alignment with the organizations strategic plan.
- Synthesize findings and present clear recommendations and implementation plans to ensure impactful project outcomes to senior leaders.
- Act as a trusted partner to Senior Executives, to help them define priorities, ensuring they are set up to achieve them.
Thought Leadership
- Provide effective challenge in the design, delivery and execution phase of strategic priorities and must-win opportunities.
- Review portfolio of strategic priorities to determine emerging issues and trends, and analyze the impact / implications of those trends on various business line strategic plans.
- Assist with organizing strategy offsites for senior management to facilitate ongoing discussions around All-Bank or business line strategies.
Executive Communications
- Support the CEO agenda, including all strategy, business line value creation projects, strategic planning, Board-level communications, and being a trusted advisor to senior leaders.
- In close partnership with National Communications, identify strategic communication opportunities. Support coordination and planning of events, internally and externally, and work with National Communications to ensure consistent messaging across all groups of stakeholders.
Team Leadership and Stakeholder Management
- Contribute to building the strategy team, including recruiting, coaching, knowledge development, driving integration with the organization, and championing a customer-focused culture.
- Understand the risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Champion a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates top talent by fostering an inclusive work environment.
Requirements:
- 8-10 years of experience in operations, program management, or strategy, ideally within a distribution environment.
- Strong experience in designing and managing enterprise projects, with a focus on driving results and operational excellence.
- Proven ability to develop and implement data analytics models to measure and improve organization performance.
- A strategic thinker with the ability to innovate and adapt operations to meet evolving business needs.
- Leadership experience in managing and developing teams, with a focus on enabling team success.
- Ability to work in a matrix organization and in a fast-paced environment that is continuously changing, demonstrating an ability to champion change and drive improvements.
- Strong ability to deal with ambiguity and manage through difficult situations.
- Cross functional team leadership with the ability build consensus.
- Excellent ability to delegate and can effect change through others without direct involvement.
- Strong financial modeling, influence, negotiation, project management, conflict management, analytical and presentation skills.
- Proven skills in leadership, continuous improvement, and change management.
- Proficient in the full MS Office suite of applications.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
Education and Training:
- University degree in Business Administration.
- Masters in Business Administration and/or PMP certification considered an asset.
