The Principal Architect is a senior technical leader responsible for the design, development, and long‑term evolution of mission‑critical enterprise software platforms, with specific accountability for the proprietary Sonepar Integration System. This role serves as a hands‑on architect and engineering leader, shaping end‑to‑end system architecture while partnering closely with business, product, and IT stakeholders. The Principal Architect provides architectural guidance across multiple initiatives, mentors engineering teams, drives technical standards, and ensures solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with Sonepar’s enterprise architecture strategy.
This is a hybrid position based in Broomfield, Colorado.
Responsibilities
Architecture & Solution Design
- Own the full software development lifecycle for complex enterprise applications, from design and development through deployment and ongoing maintenance.
- Serve as the principal technical authority for Sonepar’s proprietary integration platform, enabling reliable data exchange across multiple enterprise systems.
- Define and enforce architectural standards, design principles, and integration patterns to ensure consistency and scalability.
- Lead cloud‑first architecture and deployment strategies aligned to Sonepar’s enterprise technology roadmap.
Engineering Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor and guide engineers across teams, fostering a high‑performance, collaborative, and innovative engineering culture.
- Conduct architectural and code reviews to ensure quality, security, and adherence to best practices.
- Promote knowledge sharing, technical excellence, and continuous learning across the organization.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with product managers, business leaders, designers, and IT teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to leadership, influencing platform decisions and long‑term architecture strategy.
Technology Optimization & Continuous Improvement
- Identify and resolve complex technical challenges, performance bottlenecks, and integration constraints.
- Drive improvements in reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability of enterprise applications.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, tools, and architectural patterns, applying insights to improve Sonepar’s technology ecosystem.
Documentation & Governance
- Create and maintain architecture diagrams, API documentation, integration standards, and technical guidelines.
- Ensure architectural decisions comply with security, data governance, and enterprise IT standards.
Scope and Impact
- Technical Scope: Enterprise‑wide architecture impacting multiple business units and operating companies.
- Decision Authority: High‑impact architectural decisions influencing scalability, security, and platform longevity.
- Stakeholders: IT leadership, enterprise architects, software engineers, product teams, and business partners.
- Business Impact: Ensures reliability and scalability of systems critical to Sonepar’s digital and integration strategy.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 7+ years of experience as a Software Engineer with delivery of complex, enterprise‑scale systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in enterprise software architecture and integration of multiple enterprise platforms.
- Deep experience with integration patterns, middleware, APIs, and data migration methodologies.
- Strong experience in cloud architecture and cloud‑first development models.
- Expert‑level proficiency in .NET Core and C#.
- Strong knowledge of software design principles, architectural patterns, and best practices.
- Experience with relational and non‑relational databases (SQL and NoSQL).
- Familiarity with Agile and modern software development methodologies.
- Proven ability to solve complex technical problems and lead architecture decisions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Education & Certifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline required.
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cloud Computing, or Enterprise Architecture preferred.
Preferred Certifications
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional)
- Google Professional Cloud Architect
- TOGAF Certification (Enterprise Architecture)
- Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or SAFe Agilist
- Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD) or container‑platform certifications
- Security certifications such as CISSP or CCSP (preferred for enterprise integration environments)
