Sonepar is seeking an accomplished and visionary Principal Architect – Integration Platform & Engineering Lead to provide strategic leadership and technical direction for the enterprise Integration Layer that powers critical business capabilities across the organization.
This role serves as the senior technical authority responsible for the architecture, governance, engineering practices, and long-term evolution of Sonepar's enterprise integration ecosystem. As both an architect and engineering leader, you will define technical strategy, lead modernization initiatives, and ensure the delivery of secure, scalable, and resilient integration solutions that connect applications, data, and business processes across the enterprise.
The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership capabilities and a passion for building high-performing engineering teams. Working closely with Product Management, Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, Data Services, and Digital Factory teams, you will translate business objectives into sustainable technology solutions that accelerate digital transformation and support enterprise growth.
This position follows a hybrid work model and is based in Broomfield, Colorado with up to a 20% travel, with regular collaboration across Sonepar's national technology organization and operating companies.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Architecture & Platform Strategy
Provide architectural leadership and technical ownership for Sonepar's enterprise Integration Layer platform.
Define and maintain enterprise integration standards, reference architectures, engineering principles, and governance frameworks.
Design scalable, cloud-native, API-first, and event-driven solutions that support critical business capabilities.
Drive the modernization of integration technologies, frameworks, and development practices.
Lead technology evaluations, proof-of-concepts, and strategic platform roadmap initiatives.
Ensure architectural decisions align with enterprise architecture standards, cybersecurity requirements, compliance expectations, and long-term business objectives.
Establish reusable integration patterns and platform capabilities that support enterprise-wide adoption.
Engineering & Delivery Leadership
Partner with Product Managers, Business Analysts, and business stakeholders to define, prioritize, and deliver integration initiatives.
Lead backlog refinement activities, ensuring technical requirements are appropriately defined, estimated, and ready for execution.
Provide architectural guidance, solution designs, and implementation recommendations throughout the software development lifecycle.
Drive technical prioritization that balances business value, platform stability, scalability, operational risk, and technical debt management.
Facilitate strategic decision-making and tradeoff discussions among business and technology stakeholders.
Support engineering workforce planning, recruiting, onboarding, and professional development initiatives.
Platform Engineering Excellence
Champion modern engineering practices, including:
Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD)
DevOps automation
Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
Automated testing and quality engineering
Security-by-design methodologies
Platform observability and monitoring
Reliability and performance engineering
Operational resiliency and disaster recovery planning
Participate directly in the design and implementation of complex technology solutions.
Lead architecture reviews, design reviews, and code quality initiatives.
Drive continuous improvement across development processes, tooling, automation, and platform operations.
Lead root-cause analysis efforts and resolution of complex production incidents.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration
Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, Data Platform, Digital Factory, Product Management, and business leadership teams.
Translate complex business requirements into scalable, sustainable technology solutions.
Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on integration strategy, platform capabilities, and technology investments.
Align integration initiatives across multiple programs, business units, and operating companies to maximize enterprise value.
Governance & Operational Excellence
Establish governance standards for APIs, enterprise integrations, event contracts, and platform services.
Ensure platform reliability, supportability, scalability, and operational readiness.
Drive enterprise standards for observability, alerting, monitoring, and service health management.
Maintain architecture documentation, engineering standards, and technical roadmaps.
Identify, prioritize, and reduce technical debt while maintaining delivery commitments.
Promote operational excellence through consistent measurement, reporting, and continuous improvement practices.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline. Equivalent professional experience will be considered.
Minimum of 7 years of experience delivering enterprise-scale software and integration solutions.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical leadership roles within integration-focused environments.
Proven success leading engineering teams and delivering complex technology initiatives across large organizations.
Experience partnering with Product and business stakeholders to drive technical strategy and execution.
Demonstrated success managing technical roadmaps, platform modernization efforts, and engineering prioritization.
Technical Expertise
Deep expertise in enterprise integration architecture and distributed systems.
Strong experience designing and implementing:
API architectures and API management platforms
Event-driven architectures
Messaging and integration platforms
Enterprise service patterns
System-to-system integrations
Data synchronization and migration frameworks
Extensive experience designing, developing, and supporting cloud-native solutions within Microsoft Azure.
Expert-level proficiency with C#, .NET, and modern software development practices.
Strong understanding of microservices architecture and Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
Experience with SQL and NoSQL database technologies.
Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and platform automation.
Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and executive presentation skills.
Experience working within Agile product delivery frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience leading enterprise-scale integration platforms in complex, multi-company environments.
Expertise with Azure Integration Services, including API Management, Service Bus, Event Grid, Logic Apps, and Azure Functions.
Experience with Kafka or comparable event-streaming technologies.
Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles and operational maturity frameworks.
Experience implementing enterprise observability and monitoring platforms.
Demonstrated success leading modernization and technical debt reduction programs.
Experience supporting ERP, supply chain, pricing, inventory, commerce, and customer-facing platforms.
Microsoft Azure certifications, TOGAF certification, or equivalent architecture credentials preferred.
