Main purpose of the job: The Logistics Manager will be responsible for managing and developing the day-to-day operations. The role is key to ensuring the CDC operates efficiently but also always with the customer in mind.

 

Initially the role will be key to opening a new CDC, ensuring processes are developed and team members are trained allowing for a successful go live.

The role will support in ensuring the southern logistics network aligns processes and culture with the rest of the business to ensure customer experience is enhanced. The role will be key to delivering consistency while leveraging modernized tools and framework to drive success relative to broader performance targets and costs while mitigating disruption to service and sales.

 

The Logistics Manager develops and coaches’ direct reports to build the level of support needed to sustain process excellence capabilities throughout the business

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  1. Logistics Team Leadership (65%)

Demonstrate accountability and ownership through their own actions, setting the standard for the team to follow. Maintain open and honest communication, ensuring that everyone is informed and on the same page. Provide the necessary resources and support for the team members to allow for development and growth. Coach and develop the team to drive a continuous improvement mentality focused on customer experience and operational efficiencies.

 

  1. Communication – Cross Departmental Collaboration (25%)

Connects all departments and engages from a resource perspective the appropriate level of ownership and clear responsibility for scope and deliverables. Creates a culture of mutual accountability with respect to timeliness and quality of work from all owners.

 

  1. Strategic Leadership (10%)

Support the VP of Logistics in delivering the key strategic goals of the CDC.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Support local project team with the realization of the CDC Charlotte including design, construction and site setup
  • Support the Logistics development of the Charlotte CDC, incorporating recruitment, training, process management to ensure a successful go live and ramp up phase
  • Support the VP of Logistics with developing strategic operational plans, department budgets as well as enhance productivity and efficiency throughout the Company logistics.
  • Develop and create the Capital Electric logistics network across North & South Carolina and Georgia.
  • Develop relationships with key accounts in understanding logistical needs and developing successful strategies to exceed customer expectations.
  • Implement efficient processes and management methods to generate higher ROI and logistics optimization across the DC network.
  • Assign and accept challenging assignments to expand professional knowledge and capabilities of self and others.
  • Develop best-in-class logistics, warehousing and inventory business processes capable of ensuring consistent delivery of goods, minimize stock outs and consistently improve on time delivery results exceeding customers’ expectations.
  • Leverage data and analytics to build visibility and reporting that supports sustainable multiyear productivity improvements.
  • Identify opportunities within the Charlotte CDC network to support branch/counter business optimization, leveraging key tools and coordination with sales insights.
  • Inbound / Outbound logistics optimizations inclusive of engaging supplier synergies and cost reductions
  • Lead the development, implementation, and review of logistics policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards
  • Embody the Sonepar Leadership Model to drive business results while also leveraging and respecting separate realities. Have courageous conversations when providing clear and specific expectations and feedback to the team; responsible to teach, coach and mentor the team to ensure their success.
  • Develop working relationships with the Materials Management team to ensure correct pricing, proper inventory levels and product line management.
  • Develop working relationships with Sales Leaders to develop short- and long-term strategies in each of the business segments of Industrial, Contractor and Utility.
  • Develop relationships with key accounts in understanding logistical needs and developing successful strategies to exceed customer expectations.
  • Reinforce all Sonepar business and operational policies, ensure that controls are in place and operating as designed
  • Develop self and others – assign and accept challenging assignments to expand professional knowledge and capabilities of self and others
  • Perform other job responsibilities, as requested
  • Provide clear and specific expectations to direct reports; set mutually agreed upon goals annually for each team member through an interactive process. Conduct periodic check-ins to provide meaningful performance feedback and guidance in relation to their performance to goal. Support team development through talent planning efforts in partnership with HR. Recognize succession needs, identify potential successors and manage development plans to ensure preparedness for succession activities.
  • Safety / DOT / Environment leadership and accountability

 

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience: 

  • Electrical, Industrial and/or distribution experience preferred but not required
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A or B.S.) from a 4-year college or University in Business Management; or
  • 5+ years in an Operational Leadership role; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Requirements:

  • The role will require a 6–9-month training period of 3-5 days per week in MD
  • Clear experience in B2B distribution / branch network operations
  • Proven track record as a leader who solves problems and resolves conflicts to achieve a positive outcome
  • Strong planning and analytical skills
  • Excellent Communication and Presentation Skills
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products and ERP systems. Experience with Eclipse ERP a plus
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally when required
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary business information
