Scope of Position:

Responsible for the development, implementation and on-going coordination of our Health and Safety program for Texcan across multiple locations in Western Canada. Responsibilities include managing HSE best practices, promoting the importance of hazard identification, and implementing other programs to reduce the overall risk of injuries or incidents. Working collaboratively among other health and safety professionals within Sonepar Canada is also important within the role.


  • Develop, recommend, and implement safety program, practices & procedures (includes operational procedures taking into account all relevant risks, hazards, and controls).
  • Analyze and update policies, procedures and plans in accordance with provincial or company guidelines.
  • Oversee and perform (as required) inspections to identify hazards and potential risks for corrective actions.
  • Provide training to all employees regarding OH&S compliance across all Texcan branches.
  • Carry out and monitor regular HSE inspections to ensure compliance towards policies and procedures.
  • Communicate the importance of incident reporting and conduct investigations as required.
  • Recommend corrective/preventive measures following incidents to reduce risk of re-occurrence.
  • Oversee formation of H&S Committees and chair monthly meetings.
  • Develop and manage a return-to-work program for work related incidents across all branches.
  • Conduct employee new hire health and safety orientations Identify, monitor, evaluate and track all Health and Safety activities through audits, other record keeping methods.
  • Perform statistical analysis to support finance, marketing & sales. (Including monthly management reports). Providing other HSE KPIs to executive management upon request.
  • Ensure all employees have adequate PPE available to them as necessary or requested.
  • Incorporate HSE objectives with operations team by measuring related results as needed (Countermeasures / Gaps).
  • Represent Texcan in a professional manner when required during customer or client visits Promotes a behavioral based safety culture and supports change with all employees and managers.
  • Participate in all meetings as requested and required.
  • Travel up to 20%, as needed.


Required Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 5+ years related experience.
  • Industry knowledge and experience preferred.
  • Current certifications in Safety Management (CRSP, CHSC, OHS Certificate, OHS Diploma).
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft office (Powerpoint, Word, Excel, Sharepoint)
  • Safety Management Software Experience (SAP, Enablon, Cority, or Conformit)
  • Thorough understanding of general management principles with experience in a sales focused environment
  • Sound analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Self-motivated and performance orientated
