Scope of Position:

Reporting to the Distribution Centre (DC) Manager, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for improving process flows and following procedures to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness within the Distribution Centre (DC).  The Afternoon Shift Supervisor is responsible for the closing shift of the DC, as well as ensuring that the building has been properly secured. 

The Shift Supervisor must have the ability to interact with people at all levels within the DC while providing direction to a team of employees with a strong focus on teamwork and customer service.  Solid product knowledge, computer skills and the ability to manage multiple activities effectively and simultaneously is required.

An exciting opportunity for an Afternoon Shift Warehouse Supervisor has become available in our Eastgate branch.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Promote safety awareness through training and regular meetings
  • Provide leadership and supervision through constructive feedback
  • Direct the activities of your team
  • Monitor the process parameters and update the process if required
  • Compliance with corporate strategies and policies including when handling paperwork and inventory
  • Analyse and resolve workflow/personnel problems
  • Develop work schedules and assign tasks/responsibilities
  • The ability to exhibit team spirit in the DC and effectively interface with warehouse and branch personnel to resolve customer and inventory related issues
  • Communicate process changes and resolve quality concerns
  • Recruit, interview, hire, develop and train employees to reach their maximum potential
  • Conduct fair and concise disciplinary actions, and evaluation of the overall performance of employees
  • Assist with meeting customer requirements
  • Ensure compliance with TDG regulations
  • Organized and maintain a clean, safe working environment
  • Maintain a high level of communication with other branches, supervisors, leads and managers
  • Read, understand, and follow Vallen’s health, safety and environment policies and all applicable OH&S legislations/regulations
  • Actively participate in Vallen’s health and safety management system, including training, audits, assessments, safety meetings and inspections
  • Identify, control and report workplace hazards including following WHMIS/TDG requirements and reporting near misses
  • Report workplace injuries immediately and participate in any return-to-work programs or requirements
  • Be fit for duty and physically capable of performing all required tasks

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent considered an asset
  • Previous warehouse or distribution experience considered an asset

Abilities Required

  • Flexibility with hours of work for training purposes and department coverage
  • Proficient with computer software programs (Microsoft Suite)
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to prioritize
  • Decision making abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to think critically and problem solve
  • Handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion
  • Sound judgment, strong organizational skills; focus on providing superior customer service
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
