Responsibilities |
Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Company's financial records, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, and assisting with financial analysis and internal controls. This position serves as a key contributor within the Finance team and works closely with operational leaders across the organization to support sound financial decision-making.
The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting knowledge, exceptional analytical skills, and experience in a distribution, wholesale, or inventory-driven environment. This position reports directly to VP of Finance and operates as an individual contributor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & General Accounting
- Prepare and record monthly journal entries and supporting documentation.
- Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts including cash, inventory, fixed assets, accruals, prepaid expenses, and liabilities.
- Maintain balance sheet schedules and account reconciliations.
- Ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and management reporting packages.
Inventory & Distribution Accounting
- Monitor inventory valuation and cost accounting processes.
- Analyze inventory variances, obsolescence reserves, and inventory-related adjustments.
- Support physical inventory counts and cycle count reconciliation activities.
- Partner with operations and warehouse leadership to ensure accurate inventory reporting and controls.
Financial Analysis
- Analyze financial performance, trends, and variances against budget and prior periods.
- Prepare reports and provide insights to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Support business leaders with ad hoc financial analyses and special projects.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting.
- Assist with preparation of documentation for annual financial audits.
- Coordinate requests from external auditors and tax advisors.
- Support compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with sales tax, property tax, and other accounting-related compliance activities as needed.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting efficiency, and data accuracy.
- Support ERP system enhancements, upgrades, and integrations.
- Participate in finance transformation initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
Experience
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience in wholesale distribution, electrical distribution, manufacturing, or inventory-intensive industries preferred.
- Public accounting experience is a plus.
- Experience with ERP systems and advanced reporting tools preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, formulas, and data analysis.
- Ability to analyze large data sets and identify trends or discrepancies.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating across departments.
