Primary Function
An Estimator is responsible for determining factors needed to successfully quote and complete a project. These factors include but are not limited to concept, labor, services, materials, and pricing. In addition, an Estimator must effectively communicate, explain, and present information to associates, customers, vendors, and contracted professionals.
Essential Functions
Estimating
- Monitors incoming requests to inboxes on a daily basis. Begins tracking requests within the specified software platform as directed.
- Analyzes details, documents, prints, specifications and plans to gain thorough understanding of a project.
- Communicates information needed and assists in the efforts to gather further details to develop accurate proposals. Provides appropriate intake forms to associates.
- Prepares estimates and pricing for materials, labor, and services.
- Prepares formal proposal documents.
- Presents and explains proposals to associates and/or customers.
- When required, works with vendors to seek special pricing. Manages and saves bids from vendors and contracted professionals.
- Manages and saves all documentation for each project within the specified folder system, as directed, on a company server.
- Conducts follow up on all open proposals, gaining an understanding of current status, helps in securing orders, records updates in the specified software platform including reasons for any loss.
- Uses data to continually analyze internal costs, maintaining profitable estimations.
- Understands how to use our Eclipse (ERP) system as instructed including but not limited to sales order entry.
- Ensures product costs, item descriptions and customer sell are accurate when using Eclipse, providing feedback on discrepancies.
- Works with an urgency to respond and prepare accurate, timely proposals.
- Develops and maintains relationships with associates, customers, vendors, and contracted professionals.
- Communicates in a professional manner at all times both in verbal and written form.
- Develops and maintains an understanding and knowledge of our products, solutions, and services.
Customer Service
- Quickly finds common ground and solves problems for the good of all.
- Easily gains trust and support of others.
- Listens to details and responds appropriately, supplying associates and customers with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions.
- Assists in the resolution of associate, vendor, and customer concerns.
- Encourages collaboration and is viewed as a team player.
Other Responsibilities
- Attends training courses to develop knowledge as required.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Ability to travel to jobsites, if needed and when required.
- Performs other duties as directed or required to assist the team.
Necessary Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent training from two-year college or technical school or equivalent on the job experience as determined by Springfield Electric.
- Two (2) or more years of experience in sales, support, or engineering.
- Motivated individual with the ability to multitask and consistently learn.
- Commitment to and demonstration of high ethical standards governing professional behavior and interactions.
- Strong customer service orientation to provide an exceptional customer experience.
- Demonstrated sales ability including articulating engineering designs and services to customers.
- Demonstrated knowledge of technical products and applications.
- Familiarity with analyzing data to develop material and labor cost estimates for projects.
- Ability to maintain flexible working hours to meet department needs.
- Ability to work well alone and in a team environment.
- Mathematical, statistical, and analytical skills including using spreadsheets and databases.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents.
- Demonstrated time management and organizational skills, including an ability to plan and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proven attentiveness to detail coupled with problem analysis and resolution skills.
- Proven proficiency in data entry and commitment to accuracy.
- Proven proficiency in the use of Microsoft’s suite of software.
- Ability to learn basic engineering software including but not limited to AutoCAD and Fusion.
- Ability to navigate and utilize the Internet in performing job functions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, conveying a message clearly and concisely, in written, verbal and presentation methods.
Desirable Qualifications
- At least two years of technical education and/or equivalent training as determined by Springfield Electric.
- Understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical systems.
- Mechanical expertise including but not limited to design, fabrication, welding, etc.
Physical Ability Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, kneel, bend, crouch and walk for prolonged periods of time including as a driver or passenger in an automobile.
- Ability to utilize a computer keyboard, computer monitor, and telephone.
- Ability to bend, climb, push, and pull, including the ability to maneuver at heights and in tight or small places.
- Ability to safely negotiate walking through construction sites while carrying or otherwise transporting work-related materials.
- Ability to occasionally climb a ladder and step stool.
- Ability to lift, carry, and otherwise transport work-related materials that frequently weigh up to 50 lbs. and that may occasionally weigh in excess of 50 lbs
