Reporting to the Payroll & HRIS Manager, the Payroll Specialist (PS) is responsible for the accurate and timely execution of the full payroll cycle for all operating companies of Sonepar Canada. The PS is required to ensure that Sonepar Canada remains in compliance within all the provinces where we operate. A working knowledge of payroll legislation across various Canadian provinces is required. The PS is also accountable for data quality between the HRIS and Payroll database, as well as reporting monthly & quarterly KPI’s.
Major Responsibilities:
- Prepare and execute full payroll cycle ensuring best practices are adhered to
- Ensure payrolls for all hourly paid and salaried staff is processed accurately and in a timely manner
- Reconcile and remit WCB/WSIB
- Maintain records of all vacation entitlements and usage, outstanding lieu time and sick days taken within the payroll system
- Prepare, calculate and import any required payroll adjustments
- Process benefits, expenses, and allowances
- Review associate records with supporting documentation for new hires, current associates and terminated associates
- Prepare year-end employee tax slips and/or forms and submitting government filings to meet deadlines
- Respond to employee inquiries for payroll issues or concerns
- Identify any areas of improvement within the payroll process
- Maintain confidential information by adhering to legal and ethical standards
- Produce monthly and quarterly KPI’s for HR & Sr. Management
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Minimum 5-7 years of related experience within a complex payroll environment of 1000+ employees.
- Bilingual – English & French - required.
- Current Canadian Payroll Association certification (PCP or CPM) or equivalent work experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat with advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent organization and mathematical skills.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Knowledge of ADP, including Time & Attendance preferred.
- Knowledge of theory, principles and practices of payroll.
