Director of Operations & Logistics

Directs, administers and coordinates functions of the organization's logistics department in accordance with policies, goals and objectives established by the organization with emphasis on customer service. Responsible for maintaining effective communication between both internal and external customers and specific areas of assigned responsibility. Coordinate, control and organize multiple functions and activities including the transportation and storage of goods, non-product vendor selection and negotiation, distribution, and inventory control. Assists, with support from supervisors, in the recruitment, selection, training and development of personnel.

 

What you'll do:

 

  • Development of the logistics capabilities of the business to support QED strategies, business initiatives and goals.
  • Instrumental in acquisition of new branch locations and lease negotiation to support organizational growth.
  • Responsible for budgeting for direct/indirect labor, warehousing and freight costs.
  • Facilitate planning for the strategic and tactical direction for initiatives that improve customer service, product quality and processes while reducing overall costs.
  • Establish a preventive maintenance program to minimize disruptions to operations.
  • Collaborates with sales and purchasing departments to manage inventory flow and assess long and short-term demands based on forecasts, promotions, new product, etc. and their impacts on operations.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with internal and external customers, by providing exceptional customer service within a sales driven model.
  • Responsible for implementing, maintaining, and achieving corporate quality standards.
  • Operational ownership of areas such as: Inventory Management, Logistics Management, Distribution Strategy and Network, Freight Management and Supply Chain Quality Assurance Strategies.
  • Ensures proper inventory controls are adhered to in accordance with SUSA standards.
  • Leads inventory audit processes in conjunction with SUSA team.
  • Implement audit controls to ensure process compliance and standardized metrics for service, productivity and logistics cost reduction.
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA, DOT and any other applicable industry guidelines.
  • Ensure consistency in application of policy and departmental expectations.
  • Ensure facilities are maintained in proper condition creating a safe working environment.
  • Work with HR and Safety on creation and implementation of corporate safety standards.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned.

 

What you'll bring:

 

  • Proven project management skills.
  • Extensive evidenced success in logistics roles at a senior level.
  • Extensive experience of end-to-end supply chain ideally within an electrical distribution business.
  • Knowledge of P & L and project development.
  • Data analysis, understanding of logistics system processes to drive accuracy and efficiency.
  • Familiar with a variety of the electrical industry concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Ability to develop close working relationships with both customers and colleagues.
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Possess in depth knowledge of QED computer systems, Eclipse, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Collaborate, mentor, motivate and lead logistics associates in a matrix organization.
  • Team player who acts in alignment with QED’s strong core values and beliefs.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) in Supply Chain Management or Logistics and five to 10 years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • MBA or MS in Supply Chain Management or MS in Business Logistics a plus.
  • Strong leadership skills including coaching, mentoring and listening.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
