The Director of Pricing is responsible for developing, leading, and executing the Company's pricing strategy to maximize profitable growth, improve margin performance, and drive pricing consistency across the organization. This role serves as the senior leader for pricing governance, special pricing agreements (SPAs), rebate management, analytics, reporting, and pricing execution. The Director of Pricing partners closely with Sales, Operations, Purchasing, Finance, and executive leadership to develop pricing strategies that improve profitability while maintaining competitive market positioning. The position is responsible for identifying margin leakage, driving pricing discipline, optimizing contract and project pricing, and leveraging analytics to support fact-based business decisions. As a key member of the leadership team, the Director of Pricing champions a culture of pricing excellence and accountability throughout the organization.
This position can work from our Salt Lake City, UT, Denver, CO, Mesa, AZ, or Las Vegas, NV facility.
Pricing Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute the OpCo's comprehensive pricing strategy aligned with corporate growth and profitability objectives.
- Serve as the organization's subject matter expert on pricing methodologies, strategies, market trends, and margin optimization.
- Establish pricing governance, approval processes, and accountability standards across all business units.
- Partner with executive leadership to develop pricing initiatives and profitability improvement plans.
- Lead pricing transformation efforts and continuous improvement initiatives.
Special Pricing Agreements (SPAs) & Contract Management
- Own the development, administration, and effectiveness of customer-specific pricing agreements.
- Establish processes to evaluate, approve, monitor, and renew SPAs.
- Analyze SPA performance to ensure targeted profitability and strategic objectives are achieved.
- Identify opportunities to increase SPA utilization and margin improvement.
- Manage contract pricing reviews and renewal strategies.
Rebates & Vendor Programs
- Lead rebate strategy, tracking, and optimization efforts across the supplier portfolio.
- Collaborate with Purchasing team to maximize supplier rebate opportunities.
- Monitor rebate performance and ensure accurate capture, reporting, and reconciliation.
- Evaluate vendor program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
- Develop reporting tools that provide visibility into rebate attainment and opportunities.
Pricing Analytics & Reporting
- Develop and maintain pricing dashboards, KPIs, and executive reporting.
- Analyze pricing performance, margin trends, customer profitability, override activity, and competitive positioning.
- Identify margin leakage and recommend corrective actions.
- Deliver actionable insights to executive leadership, sales management, and branch leadership.
- Establish standardized reporting for gross margin, overrides, SPAs, rebates, project profitability, and customer profitability.
Pricing Governance & Manual Overrides
- Establish and maintain pricing approval authority structures.
- Monitor manual override activity and identify trends requiring corrective action.
- Develop processes to reduce unnecessary pricing exceptions while preserving customer competitiveness.
- Conduct regular pricing audits to ensure compliance with company policies and pricing standards.
- Implement controls that improve pricing consistency and margin integrity.
Customer, Product & Market Pricing Management
- Lead customer segmentation, pricing segmentation, and market pricing initiatives.
- Develop strategies to improve pricing consistency across products, customers, regions, and market segments.
- Support major quotations, project pricing, and strategic account pricing decisions.
- Evaluate market conditions, competitive activity, commodity trends, and supplier cost changes to inform pricing decisions.
- Work closely with Sales to balance growth, competitiveness, and profitability.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partner with Sales leadership to drive adoption of pricing best practices.
- Collaborate with Purchasing on cost management and strategic supplier initiatives.
- Work with Finance to validate margin performance, rebate attainment, and profitability objectives.
- Support branch and sales leaders through pricing education, coaching, and performance reviews.
- Present pricing insights and recommendations to executive leadership on a recurring basis.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Marketing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in pricing, sales operations, finance, analytics, category management, or commercial leadership.
- 5+ years of leadership experience driving pricing strategy and profitability initiatives.
- Experience within electrical distribution, industrial distribution, manufacturing, wholesale distribution, or related industries preferred.
- Demonstrated success leading pricing transformations and margin improvement programs.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite
- Proficient in Eclipse
