Title:  Warehouse Manager

Reports to:  Operations Manager

Customers served:  External – All Summit customers; Internal – Summit warehouse, counter and sales associates

Role Summary:

The Warehouse Manager leads and directs the warehouse and delivery operations.  Responsible for operational excellence, lean process improvement, and ensuring customer order accuracy and on time delivery.  Sets the example for associates by completing shipping, receiving, and delivery functions while following Summit’s safety and process procedures. 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the overall direction and evaluation of warehouse associates to include: training associates; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Coordinate and enforce operational and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Manage, lead, and mentor all supervisors, warehouse associates and drivers by coaching, counseling, and advising on career growth opportunities.
  • Develop and initiate lean projects that impact efficiency within the warehouse and delivery functions.
  • Ensure warehouse operational requirements are achieved by scheduling and assigning associates to complete tasks and following up on work results.
  • Maintain physical condition of equipment, issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement.
  • Assist other warehouse/driver associates with preparing orders for shipment as necessary.
  • Package and ship Summit products as necessary.
  • Receive products on daily basis to replenish inventory.
  • Make sure inventory is stocked appropriately at all times.
  • Understand product capabilities, warranties, usages and challenges to further educate and serve customers.
  • Ensure warehouse and respective outside areas are neat and clean at all times.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • 5 years’ experience managing a warehouse or distribution center to include customer delivery operations.
  • Experience leading a team to include making personnel decisions (selection and hiring, performance evaluation, succession planning, employee development, disciplinary actions, terminations)
  • Ability to ensure compliance with policies and procedures to ensure Summit is operating at maximum efficiency and accomplishing its performance objectives.
  • Ability to perform duties independently with minimal supervision or guidance.
  • Quantifiable success in driving operational performance and efficiencies.
  • Experience utilizing a Warehouse Management System (WMS).
  • Ability to build relationships with and supervise others.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Time management – strong ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Flexibility – ability to effectively adapt to change.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Beneficial Skills and Experience

  • Previous supervisory experience within a distribution center.
  • Previous experience in as an outbound and/or inbound supervisor.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience working with SAP or similar ERP.
  • Experience working for or with 3PL companies.

Physical Challenges

  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to operate standard warehouse equipment
  • Ability to operate commercial vehicles
  • Ability to climb stairs
