Scope of Position:
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading Texcan's purchasing function to ensure the timely procurement of inventory and customer-specific products while maintaining appropriate inventory levels across all branch locations, supporting project bids and priority requirements. This role oversees supplier relationships, purchasing strategies, inventory replenishment, and team performance to support customer service objectives and operational efficiency. The Purchasing Manager provides leadership and development to the Purchasing team while driving continuous improvement and strong supplier partnerships.
Responsibilities:
- Lead purchasing activities for inventory replenishment and customer order requirements.
- Develop and implement purchasing strategies to ensure product availability and support business objectives.
- Negotiate supplier pricing, terms, and delivery commitments to support service and inventory goals.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and key vendor partners.
- Evaluate supplier performance and address service, quality, delivery, and supply concerns.
- Oversee inventory replenishment activities and monitor stock levels to ensure customer demand is met while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
- Partner with Sales to support RFQs, project bids, product selection, sourcing strategies, and pricing initiatives.
- Review and interpret BOMs, specifications, engineering documents, bid requirements, and contractual terms to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
- Provide market intelligence, supplier expertise, and landed cost analysis to support strategic purchasing decisions and profitable growth.
- Recommend products, solutions, and sourcing strategies that meet customer requirements while optimizing cost, availability, and service levels.
- Monitor market conditions, product availability, and potential supply disruptions, implementing contingency plans as required.
- Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Product Management, and branch teams to support customer requirements and business initiatives.
- Resolve escalated supplier, purchasing, inventory, and delivery issues in a timely manner.
- Monitor departmental performance and implement plans to achieve operational and service objectives.
- Lead, coach, train, and develop Purchasing team members, including performance management and succession planning activities.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives to enhance purchasing processes, inventory management practices, and overall service levels.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma required.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word
- Post-secondary education in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 5-7 years of purchasing, procurement, or inventory management experience.
- Previous management experience required.
- Distribution and/or electrical industry experience is an asset.
- Strong supplier relationship and negotiation skills.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
