POSITION SUMMARY
The Safety Manager is responsible for leading Capital Electric’s company-wide safety efforts to protect employees, assets, and operations. This role develops and executes the enterprise safety strategy, ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, reduces operational risk, and supports leaders in integrating safety into daily operations. The Safety Manager serves as a key advisor to senior leadership and field management in support of Capital Electric’s Zero Harm commitment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Safety Strategy and Governance
Develop, implement, and continuously improve the enterprise safety strategy aligned with business objectives and Zero Harm goals. Lead the Capital Safety Committee and establish clear safety standards, programs, and expectations across the organization.
Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management
Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and all applicable federal, state, local, and customer safety regulations. Maintain required safety documentation, reporting, audits, and inspections. Identify, assess, and mitigate safety and regulatory risks.
Leadership Enablement and Safety Culture
Provide guidance, tools, training, and coaching to managers and supervisors to ensure local ownership of safety performance. Develop and oversee safety training programs including forklift, DOT, operator, and Train-the-Trainer programs, and evaluate effectiveness and retention.
Incident Prevention and Investigation
Drive prevention efforts to reduce workplace injuries, accidents, and hazards. Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis. Develop and track corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Monitor and manage workers’ compensation, auto, and vehicle-related incidents in coordination with insurance providers and third-party administrators.
Metrics, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement
Establish annual safety goals and key performance indicators. Analyze trends and performance data to prioritize risk and improvement efforts. Provide regular, actionable safety reporting to leadership.
Asset Protection and Loss Prevention
Develop and maintain processes to protect company facilities, inventory, vehicles, and operational assets. Partner with Operations, Human Resources, and insurance providers to reduce loss exposure, claims, and business disruption.
LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS
Act as a strategic business partner and enterprise risk leader. Influence and hold leaders accountable for safety ownership and execution. Communicate clearly and effectively across all levels of the organization. Balance regulatory compliance with operational practicality.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in electrical, industrial, or distribution environments is preferred. OSHA 30-hour certification is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to lead and influence in a multi-site environment. Strong planning, organizational, and execution skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to build productive working relationships across the organization.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Up to 50 percent travel.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Vice President of Supply Chain with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Vice President of Operations.
Salary: $100,000 - $130,000 with bonus potential
