Job Summary
Sells products of distributor to business and industrial establishments or individuals at sales office, store, showroom, or customer's place of business by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories, industry ads, trade shows, Internet Web sites, and other sources.
- Travels throughout assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders, or talks with customers on sales floor or by phone. Serves as an example of positive representation of the company while in travel situations on company expense and in company vehicles, adhering to principles of good etiquette, safety practices and good citizenship.
- Processes orders from customers in sales, using all required company policies, procedures and systems. Call, mail or deliver orders for processing, shipment and delivery of merchandise in a timely manner.
- Displays or demonstrates product, using samples or catalog, and emphasizes saleable features. Be familiar with products sold in your department/branch by use, vendor, and location in the warehouse, catalog number and reference materials, and special or unique selling points of products being sold.
- Provides oral and written quotations or estimates of prices, terms, delivery, credit terms and prepare sales contracts for orders obtained.
- Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of own firm's production and delivery schedules. Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries. Assist in collections of accounts and be knowledgeable concerning credit status and procedures with customer.
- Prepares reports of business transactions and keeps careful, accurate and daily records of expense accounts to be reimbursed by the company and submitted in a timely manner.
- Develops relationships with key vendors in assigned OSP and Broadband markets.
- Promotes and features key vendor products through join sales calls and promotions.
- Markets and sells products and/or services for an organization. Develops relationships with new and existing customers and provides information to maximize sales volume. Usually requires experience in sales and thorough knowledge of the organization's products and/or services.
- Sells and promotes branch and company-wide promotions.
- Works with customer to resolve problems and issues that may occur or as directed by District Sales Manager.
- Works with Purchasing Dept. and/or District Manager to special inventory selections for specific acts.
- Works with Purchasing Agent or District/Branch Manager to resolve specific inventory problems as directed by District Manager.
- Formulates, develops, and executes account development on sales plans by count. Submit reports as required.
- Enters sales call plans, calls, and results into “branch planner” as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to do basic Excel spreadsheets.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to perform math functions representative of the job such as; addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and metric scales; computing rate, ratio, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs; calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and proportions.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety variables in situations where only limited information or standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to obtain a Motor Vehicle Drivers License and maintain a safe driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
