We are looking for a Director of Health & Safety to lead and enhance our health & safety programs across the Sonepar USA enterprise. This role involves driving a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and partnering with Operating Companies (OpCo) Health & Safety (H&S) managers to eliminate hazards and improve safety performance. The ideal candidate will be an expert in safety management within the distribution industry, demonstrate strong leadership, and collaborate effectively with various teams. Flexibility and hands-on problem-solving are essential.
What You’ll Do:
Strategic Partnership and Collaboration:
- Partner with H&S Managers to drive improvements for a safe workplace.
- Update and implement safety procedures and policies.
- Ensure compliance with safety training requirements.
- Ensure consistent safety assessments, reporting, and training.
- Work with Supply Chain on warehouse layout and design.
- Collaborate with the parent company on global safety initiatives.
- Develop emergency response procedures.
- Establish a process for integration of acquisitions into safety programs.
H&S Compliance:
- Oversee the rollout and integration of the new H&S platform.
- Develop and assess annual H&S strategies, reporting results to senior leadership.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and stay updated on legal changes.
- Apply knowledge of DOT/FMCSA requirements and best practices.
HSE Training, Reporting, and Improvement:
- Set safety training requirements and oversee training programs.
- Analyze and report on safety statistics, collaborate with H&S managers to address negative trends.
- Manage EPA and OSHA records.
- Monitor compliance with H&S assessments and audits.
- Create dashboards for continuous improvement of H&S KPIs.
What You Bring:
- 10+ years of program management experience within occupational safety and health
- 8+ years of multi-site H&S leadership experience (>20+ locations)
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, is preferred
- Experience leading Health & Safety programs within a distribution or warehouse environment
- Experience in leading, coaching and inspiring a diverse & decentralized team of H&S managers Certified Safety Professional or equivalent
- Extensive experience in DOT compliance & driver safety programs
- Strong project management skills
- Travel Nationally - 10%
- Must be authorized to work for Sonepar in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future
